Monofilament Recycling Program

Thanks to the 2005 spring break project of the Wentworth Institute of Technology, Honeymoon Island now has 6 monofilament recycling stations. The stations will be checked daily as part of the routine park garbage collection.

This is a very important project. Monofilament (fishing line) waste accounts for innumerable bird, fish, and turtle deaths due to entanglement and accidental ingestion. The line does not disintegrate easily and poses a threat for decades.

We could use your help. When you finish with your fishing line or just find it as you walk down the beach, please put it in one of these receptacles.
